Garden Care Plans
Barrow Gardens works with a small number of private clients across the RG8 and RG31 areas, Pangbourne, Whitchurch, Purley and the surrounding areas. If you want your garden genuinely cared for by someone who knows plants, thinks about your garden between visits and takes responsibility for how it looks and develops, these plans are designed for you. This isn't hourly gardening. You're not paying for time on site. You're paying for consistent, expert care from someone who has worked in private gardens for thirteen years and treats every garden as something that matters. If you're already a Barrow Gardens client, nothing changes unless we've spoken about it. Your current arrangement remains in place. Choose the level of care that's right for your garden.
The difference between plans isn’t the time spent on site, it’s the level of responsibility taken for the care, direction and seasonal management of the garden.
Lawn Cutting
Lawn cutting can be incorporated into your visit where the garden suits it. For larger or more complex lawns this is discussed at the initial visit and agreed separately. Many clients in the area use robotic mowers to maintain a consistent lawn between visits, which works well alongside any of the three plans.
A Note on Planting Work
Regular maintenance covers the care and management of existing planting. Where new planting involves layout decisions, plant sourcing or a considered scheme, this is treated as a separate project and quoted accordingly. Small like-for-like replacements may occasionally be carried out at Paul's discretion as part of a visit.
Starting at a New Garden
If a garden has been neglected or is coming out of a period without consistent care, early visits focus on bringing it back under control and establishing a clear baseline. From there, regular fortnightly care takes over and the garden develops properly from a stable foundation.
Limited Afternoon Work
A small number of afternoon slots are available for gardens in the local RG31 area where lighter maintenance is appropriate. Availability is limited and offered at my discretion.
How Barrow Gardens Works
Paul's focus is plant-led garden care, borders, planting, seasonal management and the kind of hands-on horticultural work that keeps a garden genuinely healthy and developing over time. To maintain the quality and consistency each client receives, Barrow Gardens does not undertake the following: *Hedge reductions or large-scale hedge cutting, specialist work best handled by a dedicated contractor, kept separate to protect the time allocated to your plan. * Tree work of any kind: always a job for a qualified arborist. * Chemical weedkillers or pesticide spraying: Barrow Gardens works without them as a matter of principle. * One-off clearance jobs or ad-hoc visits outside of a plan, all new clients begin on a care plan. * Additional tasks requested on the day outside your plan's scope, anything beyond regular care will always be discussed and agreed before any work is undertaken.
Visits and Scheduling
Visits run year-round with a natural winter break from mid-December to the end of January, reflecting the rhythm of the garden rather than an arbitrary schedule. Time on site varies with the seasons, shorter during quieter months, longer when the garden demands it. What doesn't vary is the standard of care.
Availability
Barrow Gardens works with a limited number of ongoing clients each season to ensure every garden receives consistent, considered attention. New plan clients are taken on subject to availability.
